I am David Samayoa, Canadian Weightlifter out of Regina, Sk. I have hazy memories of being in the gym while my dad and other weightlifters trained. My dad was a Guatemalan national champion weightlifter in the 80's. My dad introduced me to Olympic Weightlifting at a very young age, he first taught me the lifts when I was 9 years old.
I was very blessed to be born into a family of weightlifters. As a nine year old I was training alongside my two older sisters, Veronica, Claudia, my older brother Istvan, and my dad. When I was 14 my goal was to lift more than Claudia, When I was 15 my goal was to lift more than Veronica, then I wanted to lift more than Istvan, finally in 2012 I had totalled more than my dad. I learned the importance of goal setting and hard work paying off very young.
I have had two coaches since I started weightlifting, My dad and my brother in law Dallas. I train at Crossfit Regina with the Regina Weightlifting Club.
